Making a Move to…

For awhile now, I’ve been doing some reading and listening to messages that seem to push me more and more towards something “dangerous” (as Mark Batterson puts it in “Wild Goose Chase”). I’ve been reading books like the one I just mentioned, along with “Christian Atheists” by Craig Groeschel, “Holy Discontent” by Bill Hybels, “Crazy Love” and “Forgotten God” by Francis Chan. And of course the “Holy Bible” by God.

For whatever reason, I’ve felt this tug more and more to cause something to happen. Sometimes, I make excuses or allow excuses to stand in that way. And to be honest, I sometimes have no idea what that tug is really towards.

Seeing hurting churches filled with burnt out Christ-followers just doesn’t make sense to me. I wanna scream that’s not the way it’s suppose to be. I really can’t stand to see Pastors and “volunteers” walk up to a Sunday Morning service seemingly half-hearted. Pastors putting on a half-inspiring, half-convicting, and half-hope filled message that truly breaks it’s hearers with the love and urgency of God’s message to make a move to…and this is what my own heart has been for too long, half-hearted.

No way am I saying this against any pastors of Fellowship Church of which I am a part of. In fact, this past week our pastor told us how we needed to “wreck” ourselves to truly live a selfish life and often the first step is just taking the first step: initiative. I believe that’s where I’m at.

I don’t know what the future looks like when I truly wreck myself, but I want to end with a quick quote from “Wild Goose Chase” that has been ringing loudly in my head for a couple of days:

“In my experience, the will of God is difficult to discern because it often involves making a decision that seems irresponsible. You may have to quit a job or change majors or make a move. And on one level it will seem irresponsible to those who cannot see the godly motivation. But pursuing a God-ordained passion, no matter how crazy it seems, is the most responsible thing you can do” (p.22).
