Selah

In the Psalms, you’ll see this word “selah.”  It stands at the end of phrases and it’s true meaning is uncertain.  Many suggest it is some music or tune word.  Some suggest it represents a time of reflection on the just stated sentence.  It is similar to another Hebrew word meaning “highway or to lift up.”

It’s like these moments in songs, where after a verse or powerful chorus the instruments go through this instrumental solos, that give the people time to lift up their thoughts, reflections, rejoicing and thankfulness to God that was provoked by the words just sung.

The power of pause in a song is awesome. Try to notice next song you hear and make a highway of praise to God on these moments.
