The Big Picture = Many Small Strokes

September 3rd 2009 in Random Thoughts

I’m reading the Noticier by Andy Andrews, and although I’ll be putting a formal review later, I like this chapter I read today and want to talk about it.

Sometimes, people say they see the Big Picture of where they want to go, but never figure out all that it takes to get there. Sometimes, these people get frustrated at people who aren’t spending their time and money that directly impact the next big thing.

Other people seem to notice all these details that need attention, but don’t quite understand why the big picture people don’t just jump on it. Sometimes, these people have a hard time figuring out just which ones need to be done in order to better leverage the time and money because they don’t knowthe big overall picture.

No doubt, each side is fighting for something God-sized. Each side desires to make a purposeful impact somewhere. In order to make a big picture, you have to make small strokes. And if you’re making small strokes, you have to know what small stroke goes where so that the whole picture will come together. Check out this video which highlights Noah’s God-sized task of building the arc. The big picture takes many small strokes.

I have to be honest that I’m not the kind that’s much up for a fiction book, but this one caught my eye.  It’s based upon a remarkable true story and yet definitely blends itself with fiction, allegory, and some inspiration.

The story is of this little town of the Gulf coast. The town is [...]
